EAGLES FLYING HIGH!
The Novice LL 2 Eagles braved the icy weather and made a road trip to Lambeth on Sunday February 8 to take on the Lambeth Lancers 2 in game two of their league playoff series!
The Eagles were back to a full roster for this one, and looking to make a statement on the road! 48 seconds into the game, The Eagles fired the opening salvo of the game, when Kaden "Black Shadow" Smith burried a loose puck into the Lambeth goal! Officially, the goal was credited to Mikey "Shotgun" George, but regardless of who actually put the puck into the net, The Eagles found themselvess on top early! Isaac "The Surgeon" Goss also picked up an assist on the play!
With 2:43 to go in the first period. Kaden Smith picked up his second goal of the game, when he took the pass from Will "Robin" Janicek and put it home! Keeping in mind that the first game of the series began in almost identical fashion, The Eagles knew they needed to stay focused, disciplined and had to continue to give it 100% of their effort!
Twenty-five seconds after going up 2-0, The Lancers replied with a goal of their own. The puck seemed to have eyes as it snaked its way through a maze of defenders and into the East Lambton net! After one period, it was Eagles 2, Lancers, 1!
One minute and five seconds into period number two, William "Robin" Janicek added a little insurance when he scored unassisted at 8:55! That would be the only goal scored in the second period of play! Some very hard work, great defence and solid goaltending from Wyatt Grover prevented Lambeth from getting anything going! Ryan "Rhyno" Stevens, still fighting the end of a miserable cold, had a great game and was a very welcomed addition to the defensive unit! After 2, the Eagles found themselves with a 3-1 lead!
The first seven minutes of the third period was more of the same, with both teams trading a few chances, but having to fight for every inch of ice. That all changed, when The Eagles EXPLODED for 4 goals in the span of one minute and ten seconds! Carson "Wheels" Cumming scored, assisted by Isaac "The Surgeon" Goss and Ryan "Rhyno" Stevens at 8:10! This was immediately followed by Cumming scoring again 34 seconds later, unassisted, to make it 5-1! A quick line change resulted in Kaden "Black Shadow" Smith securing his hat-trick. unassisted at 7:25, and following that up with his 4th goal of the game at the 7-minute mark, assisted by William "Robin" Janicek!
As the final horn sounded due to curfew being reached, the Eagles congratulated eachother and their goaltender on a great all around team game! With the win, The Eagles have earned a 3 points to 1 point series lead in the race to 6! They will square-off with the Lancers again on Saturday February 14th at 12pm in Watford!
