LEAGUE FINALS, GAME 1!
The Novice LL 2 Eagles hosted Strathroy Jr. Rockets Red for game 1 of league finals on Saturday night in Alvinston!
The Eagles gathered in the dressing room before a rare prime-time game in Alvinston on Saturday night! Before hitting the ice, everyone was fired-up and ready to take on the Rockets!
The first period began with both teams playing well defensively and not getting a lot of scoring chances. At 5:08, that changed, when Kaden "Black Shadow" Smith took a pass from Cole "Batman" Janicek and lit the lamp to make it 1-0 for the Eagles!
At 8:59 of the second, Strathroy scored to tie the game. The Eagles regained the lead at 6:59 when Isaac "The Surgeon" Goss was able to score assisted by Mikey "Shotgun" George! At 2:03 Strathroy responded with another goal to knot things up at 2! That was the score after two periods.
A very exciting third period saw Carson "Wheels" Cumming score unassisted at 4:30 to put the Eagles up 3-2. But as they seemed to do all game, the Rockets quickly responded with a goal at 4:22 making it 3-3! The Rockets scored their second Power-play goal of the game with 2:41 remaining, to take a 4-3 lead! With the Eagles net empty, pressure was high down in the Rockets zone! A late penalty against the Eagles made it difficult to find a late equalizer! At the final horn. the Eagles had dropped a heartbreaker 4-3 to the visiting Rockets!
Although it was not the end result we were looking for, the team played great! A couple of PP goals were the difference! Wyatt "The Wall" Grover turned away 8 of the 12 shots he faced and played a great game between the pipes! He saw some pretty difficult shots in there!
The Eagles hope to come back hard as they travel to Strathroy on Friday March 6/15 at 6:00pm for game 2!
