EAGLES CLOSE-OUT REGULAR SEASON!
The mighty Eagles closed out their regular season with a busy last couple of weeks in January!

Way back on January 22nd, our Eagles took to the ice to play against the Point Edward Blackhawks! Playing in Alvinston, the Eagles knew they were in for another tough game with the Hawks! Having played twice before on the season and ending both games with 3-1 losses, the Eagles were aware that they would have to be sharp!
After a scoreless first period, Point Edward jumped out front at 7:34 of the second! There was no other scoring that period, as the Eagles played hard and Wyatt "The Wall" Grover, was doing a great job in net!
The third period began with Point Edward skating to a 2-0 lead just 2 minutes in. They grabbed a third goal with 1:27 to go in the game! It was looking like the Eagles would be shut out, but with only 12 seconds left to be played, Carson "Wheels" Cumming found the back of the Point Edward net to secure a 3rd 3-1 loss to those pesky Blackhawks! Cole "Batman" Janicek picked up the assist on the lone goal for the Eagles!

On January 24, the Eagles travelled to Strathroy, to take on division leading Strathroy Grey. This game did not go well for the Eagles. Missing a couple of players, the Eagles were a little out of sorts, both on the ice and on the bench. The game ended with The Rockets coming out on top 4-0. Positives to take away from the game were that we played a scoreless second period and only gave up one goal in the third! Playing without a full roster, everyone did a really good job stepping up and trying to fill into postions and roles that they were not as familiar with! There were a lot of sweaty heads after this one!

January 25, the Eagles were looking to get back on track, as they hosted Strathroy Black! The black team had a bit of a rough go over the season and were very hungry to secure their first win of the season! In what was a very hard-fought game, neither team could light up the scoreboard! The first two periods were filled with opportunities at both ends of the rink, but the goaltenders were on top of their games! 15 seconds in to the third period, Isaac "The Surgeon" Goss took matters into his own hands, when he scored, unassisted, to put the Eagles up 1-0! The shut down hockey continued after that, and despite great pressue by the Rockets, the Eagles were able to keep the puck out of our net and helped Wyatt "The Wall" Grover earn a well-deserved shut-out victory!!

In their last game of the regular season, it was an "All-Eagles" affair! Taking on the other East Lambton LL team,
it was surely going to be a crowd pleaser! The scoring was opened in the game when Sam Hayter found the back of the net about three minutes into the game putting Novice 1 ahead 1-0! Michael MacKellar assisted on the goal. The Novice 2 team tied the game at 1, when Kaden "Black Shadow" Smith scored, assisted by Cole "Batman" Janicek, 20 seconds into the second period! Twenty seconds later Novice 1 regained the lead, when Ty Douglas scored, assisted by Blake Verberne and Michael MacKellar. They would go on to add another goal 10 seconds into the third period. Again, it was Sam Hayter! Down 3-1 and looking for a spark, Carson "Wheels" Cumming scored with 3:52 to go in the game, assisted by Cole "Batman" Janicek making it 3-2!   With the goalie pulled in the dying minutes, the Novice 2 team pressed hard, but just couldnt come up with the equalizer! It was a great game to watch out there as both teams worked very hard!

Following the game, both teams got together and showcased their skills in the 1st ever Novice LL Skills Competition! All of the players took part in events such as, precision passing, target shooting, obstacle race, team relay and 2 rounds of team shoot-out! All of the kids seemed to really enjoyed it! It was awsome to see everyone having such a good time out there!

After the skills competition was over, a group picture was taken of both sets of Eagles! We all got together upstairs for a pizza party and pot-luck to celebrate the end of a fantastic regular season of East Lambton Eagles hockey! Some great food, great friends and of course some mini-sticks!

I would like to thank everyone who had a hand in making the day such a success, and for making hockey such a wonderful experience for our kids!

I would also like to wish Novice #1 the best of luck as they take on Mt. Brydges Blue in their playoffs, and of course, to Novice 2 as they give it their all against Lambeth 2!
