EAGLES SPLIT GAMES OVER WEEKEND!
The Novice LL2 Eagles played a pair of away games this past weekend in Point Edward and Strathroy.

On Saturday, December 20th, The Screaming Eagles touched down in Point Edward to take on the Blackhawks!
The Hawks opened the scoring in the first period with 5:19 to go. The Eagles played well but just couldn't seem to get the bounces to go their way.

By the time the second period rolled around, it was obvious that it was going to be a tough game! There were many examples of poor sportsmanship being displayed by a few players on the opposing team and it seemed to rattle the Eagles. Our kids continued to work hard and hung in there. Kaden "Black Shadow" Smith had a great opportunity as he streaked down the ice on a breakaway but he rang the puck off the crossbar and over the net. Shortly after that, the Hawks added a second goal to make it 2-0 with 4:59 to play in the second.

Trading all kinds of chances in the third period the Hawks went up 3-0 with 5 minutes left to play. It was looking like the Eagles were going to be shut out. With 2:46 to play, Cole "Batman" Janicek slid a pass over to Carson "Wheels" Cumming who walked in on goal and found the twine.

Fast and furious action ensued to close out the game, but even with the goalie pulled, the Eagles could not add to the score board! The game ended with a score of 3-1 for Point Edward.

Wyatt "The Wall" Grover was sensational yet again as he stopped 21 of 24 shots!

On Sunday December 21st, The Eagles travelled to Strathroy to take on Strathroy's Jr. Rockets Black team!
In our last game before Christmas, The Eagles were looking to bounce back and go into the holiday season on a high note!
The first period saw little action in the offesive zones, as most of the play was tight checking in the neutral zone. With 1:07 to play in the first, Will "Robin" Janicek opened the scoring with assists going to his brother Cole and Carson Cumming. When Will returned to the bench he was happy to report to the coaches that he "learned how to take a wrist shot!" Thirilled to hear the good news, Coach Dan advised William to get back out there and score another one! At 7:07 of the second period, William did just that. Another wrister put the Eagles up 2-0. Assists went to Carson Cumming and also to Briley "Smiley" Cole! Four minutes later, Carson "Wheels" Cumming put the icing on the cake when he scored, assisted by goaltender Wyatt "The Wall" Grover and William Janicek!
The third period saw no scoring. Our defensive unit was missing a player but the remaining 3 played an incredible game. Jack Stewart, Briley Cole and Ryan Stevens did a great job, shutting down the Rockets and helping to limit the shot total for the entire game to 9!
Wyatt "The Wall" Grover earned his second shut-out victory of the season as he turned away those 9 shots!
Following the game, the kids celebrated the season together with Timbits, courtesy of "Mad-Dog" Madison Rombouts and everyone got a little Christmas assortment from Coach Dan!

The Eagles improved to 7-5-4 in league play and sit in 4th place in the West Division with 18 points, trailing only 4 points behind division leading Strathroy Grey!

Next up the Eagles will be in action on December 28th as they take part in The Aylmer Christmas LL Tournament!
They will take on the 2nd place team in the East Division (Aylmer #1) at 9:15am at the East Link Arena!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas from all of the coaching staff!
Brad, Brad, Bob, Alynne and I all wish you the very best as you celebrate the holiday season with your families!

Looking forward to seeing all of you at the Christmas Tournament, in Aylmer! Go Eagles Go!!
