EAGLES TOP 3RD PLACE ROCKETS 2-1 AT HOME!
The Novice LL 2 Eagles hosted the Strathroy Jr. Rockets Red team in Watford on Saturday! The coaches and players were pretty familiar with their opponent this week having played to a 1-1 draw last weekend in Strathroy!

From the opeing puck drop, it was game on! In a tight-checking first period of play, both teams had a bit of trouble finding a way to the opposite net. A testiment to some great defence being played! Ryan Stevens, Jack Stewart, Briley Cole and Alex Nemcek all did a fantastic job keeping pace with the Strathroy forwards and also with clearing pucks away from goaltender Wyatt "The Wall" Grover and out of our zone! After one period, the game remained scoreless!

Half of period number two ticked by with several chances at both ends of the ice, but it wasnt until some fine offensive pressure earned the Eagles an offensive zone face off, that they were able to open the scoring.  Carson "Wheels" Cumming won the draw to Gordon "The Grinch" Bressette who completed the give and go back to "Wheels" who was going hard to the net, a nice wrister found the twine about halfway up the net, glove-side! Eagles up 1-0 after 2 periods.

In the third period, it only took the Rockets about three minutes to tie the game up. A neutral zone turnover caught our D a bit flat-footed sending a speedy #8 in on "The Wall" all alone! He made no mistake as he fired a strong wrister up and over Grover's glove! 1-1 with 11:54 to go. With intense action at both ends of the ice and great goaltending for both teams, it was starting to look like the Eagles were heading for their 6th tie of the season! That is until "Wheels" Cumming once again took control of the puck on  a pass by Isaac "The Surgeon" Goss and turned on the rocket skates! He went coast to coast before snapping the puck into the Strathroy net to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at 7:46!

As time ran down in this one, the Eagles played solidly as a team! They shut down every opportunity that the Rockets threw at them. Almost 8 minutes of scoreless hockey before the final buzzer sounded!

Wyatt Grover turned in another excellent performance saving 9 of the 10 shots he faced and keeping the Eagles in the game!

The Eagles remain unbeaten in their last 6 games and closed the gap between them and third place in the division, to a single point!

An energized squad in the dressing room after the game, celebrated the win and "The Grinch's" birthday assist with cupcakes and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

Great job team! GO EAGLES GO!!!!
