EAGLES PICK UP A TIE TO REMAIN UNBEATEN OVER LAST FIVE GAMES!
The Novice LL 2 Eagles returned to Strathroy to face 2nd place Strathroy Rockets Red at the Gemini Arena on Sunday afternoon.

After a good morning skate and instruction from former NHLer Todd Bidner this morning at 9am, the skates barely had time to dry before the screaming Eagles had to pull them out and lace them back up at 3pm as they took on the Strathroy Rockets Red, on the road!

In another very exciting match up, the Eagles came out strong and traded many chances wth the Rockets! No one could find the back of the net in the first period. Wyatt "The Wall" Grover stood tall and turned away every puck that came his way! The game was scoreless after 1 period!

Early in the second, Carson "Wheels" Cumming caught some speed and beat the Rocket skaters to their net. He let a nice shot go that eneded up in the net, but for unknown reasons, the referee signalled "no goal"! Feeling more than a little dejected on the bench, "Wheels" was told to channel the emotions into speed and to keep working hard, and that more chances would come!  At 7:26, he chipped the puck past a Rockets defender and went in all alone on the goalie. No mistakes this time, a strong wrist shot buldged the twine and put the Eagles up 1-0. Seven more minutes of scoreless hockey was played, and all kinds of chances were exchanged. "The Wall" flashed the leather late in the period making a beautiful glove save to keep the Eagles on top 1-0 after 2.

Early in the third period, the Rockets forced a turnover that saw a speedy number 8 streak in on "The Wall" all alone. Despite getting a piece of the puck the strong shot found its way into the Eagles net, tying the game at 1. Again there was all kinds of action as the clock winded down on this one. Kaden "Black Shadow" Smith showed a great burst of speed and went in on a breakaway, but he was denied by the pad of the Rockets goaltender. "Wheels" Cumming also had a breakaway opportunity late, but rung the puck off the post! Madison "Mad Dog" Rombouts also came very, close to scoring her first goal of the season in the dying seconds, but it just wasn't meant to be.  The final horn sounded, ending the game in a tie!

It felt like a win in the dressing room after the game. The kids were excited and they deserved to be! A great effort was put out by everyone on the roster, and the Eagles extended their unbeaten streak to 5 games! Picking up 3 of a possible 4 points over 2 road games in Strathroy on the weekend is nothing to scoff at!

Way to go Eagles!
