Bantam LL Game Update

WRITTEN BY: MELISSA WRIGHT

Welcome back sports fans....the East Lambton Bantam Local League Eagles had their first home game on October 11, 2014. There were some stellar performances by some incredible teammates during this nail-biting and truly exciting home opener!!! The Eagles hosted the Lucan Irish team...a team who so far is undefeated in our league and un-scored upon. Even though they remained undefeated...we broke through their defense and sunk that puck into the back of the net...the goalie seemed a little unsure of our team after the first goal!! Let's start out by saying that Jack Sanders, once again, in net was incredible. He worked so hard and got so many shots on him that seemed impossible to stop, yet he stopped many of them. The Lucan team had a few break away chances, but Jack seemed to look at them and say "Nope...not today!" and he saved shot after nearly impossible shot. This young man has come a long way in his short career as goalie and he has become increasingly consistent and fun to watch. Way to Go Jack..player of the game in my eyes!!! The first period was intense, both teams battled for the puck and our heavy hitters were coming out in full force..they had to the Lucan team had a few surprises for us and a few heavy hitters as well. It looked like it was going to be a close game, battling back and forth...up and down the ice each team working in tandem passing the puck back and forth...until on a sweet pass from Kyle Kelley....Beau Leitch sweeps the puck past the goalie...who almost looked dumbfounded that it went in...SCORE! Eagles on the board!! In the second period the Eagles were playing hard, working great as a team when Kelly Leyton passed up the middle line right to Beau Leitch and once again right past the goalie. Way to go Eagles...great team work. The third period was tough...there was a lot of tension on the ice as the team was getting frustrated. The boys looked like they were just plain tired of the slashing, tripping and cross checking from the other team. It was noticed most though when out of the blue Will Ferguson, in his first game back from injury found the puck and put the speed on and as he reached the blue line wound up for the shot and the zinger went right into the net in a top corner shot. It looked like Will had put his frustration into his shot and WOW!!!! What a goal. The Eagles ended the game with a 10 - 3 loss. However, they took away the Lucan teams 0 goals against on the season and got 3 goals..something no other team could do yet. So they should be proud of the way they played. They played with as much dignity and poise they could in such circumstances. Way to Go Eagles and the next time they meet Lucan...watch out...our team has your number!! It will be a good game!!

October 18 The East Lambton Bantam Eagles took to the ice determined to play a great game and get the win!! They hosted the South Huron Sabres at the "Eagles Nest" in Alvinston. The energy of the team was running high, positive vibes could be felt as they all entered the ice surface and started warming up for the game. The teams looked pretty evenly matched...their goalie was no taller than ours was. Jack Sanders, once again made some pretty incredible saves during the game, earning him a gold star in my books. Our boys didn't get the first goal and it did seem to take a little wind out of their sails, but they rallied back to earn their first goal of the game in the third period when Carson Rombouts found the puck and slipped it past the goalie unassisted. Our second goal came in the third period with a mad scramble around the South Huron net. The play was made by Cole Wright, Xander Fuko and Michael Cotton who were attempting to get the puck into the proper position to sink into the net. However, the call officially states that the goal went in off the skate of the South Huron players skate...therefore no one was awarded the goal or assists. The team played a great game and worked really hard together. The game ended with South Huron winning 3 - 2. You'll get them next time boys!!! Keep up the great work. We are proud of all of you!! Also a great big shout out to our coaching staff....it isn't easy to take on a whole team of 13 to 14 year old boys and get them working together. Our coaches, past and present deserve a great big thank you for taking on the task of training these kids, for taking time out of their busy lives to help our children accomplish something that makes them happy. So to Steve, Mackie, Grandpa Felker, Kevin, Rich, and Chris...Thank you for doing something many of us can not. Thank you for taking time out of your busy lives to do something for OUR children and to help make them better players. We couldn't have a team without you.
